LSAT Preptest 144 explanations

LR Question 2 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Wanda: It is common sense that one cannot create visual…

QUESTION TYPE: Principle – Conform (underly)

ARGUMENTS: Wanda says artists need stimuli, therefore her studio is messy.

Vernon points out that Wanda’s stimuli suck.

ANALYSIS: Wanda focuses on the amount of stimuli. Vernon points out their quality is relevant too.

___________

  1. Vernon didn’t say anything about unhealthy work areas.
  2. CORRECT. If quality didn’t matter, then laundry and soap bottles would be fine stimuli. Vernon’s point is that quality does matter and Wanda needs better stimuli.
  3. Vernon talked about what is stimulating, not what should be stimulating. The LSAT makes a strict separation between what is true and what ought to be.
  4. Close, but Vernon didn’t say this. It’s possible that Vernon thinks a messy studio full of high quality stimuli would improve creativity. Wanda’s problem is that her mess is full of mundane, uninspiring objects like laundry.
  5. First, Vernon is talking about what is true, not what should be. Second, Vernon said low-quality mess is bad, but he didn’t say empty was good. Vernon might think that a place with lots of high quality stimuli is even better.
